Familiar Tools: Crafting a Kit of Wild Art Supplies

$60.00 - $100.00

Join Rachel Blodgett and Catherine Sieck at Tama One art space in Olema for an afternoon immersed in the world of handmade earthen art materials, as we celebrate the final weekend of Catherine's show "A Pair of Wings and Your Gravity Between Them."

We'll begin the day with a demonstration on how to craft a natural fiber paintbrush, and then you'll have access to a wide assortment of inspiring materials to create your own personal artist's toolkit. Rachel and Catherine will be available all day for assistance, encouragement and conversation! Whether you have a specific vision you want to bring to fruition, or are seeking a spacious, playful day of crafting, this class will offer you support and inspiration. This workshop is family friendly! Youth participants are welcome.

We invite you to:

-make a personal, enchanted, useful tool for mark-making
(Catherine will specifically provide a hands-on demonstration to create the traditional brush style seen in the images for this class, but we encourage any creative direction you want to take!)

-explore and take home ready-to-use botanical inks and wild charcoal, made by Rachel and Catherine

-peruse Rachel's collection of plant dyed fabrics to create a custom cloth tool pouch to house the art materials you've made

-spend an afternoon in a lovely place, crafting at your own pace in gentle creative company

Loosely structured workshop atmosphere from 11 am to 5 pm, hands-on brush demonstration at 11:30.
We'll have stations set up for crafting in the gallery, a historic building with incredible natural light, and a backyard garden space for working outdoors.
Tea and snacks will be offered throughout the day as we craft. Please bring your own bag lunch for a picnic lunch break in the backyard.

If you have any personally significant or inspiring-to-you materials that you'd like to bring and use, please do! We'll have a wide range of supplies and tools available for you. Feel free to email [email protected] with any questions.
